A review of the Active 12 conducted by Country Walking Magazine

Country Walking Active 12 Review

From cheap and cheerful to top-end tech, the kit that matters this month… SATMAP ACTIVE 12 GPS HANDSET £450
SatMap’s Active 12 updates the Active 10, which was a firm favourite with walkers who didn’t want a touchscreen handheld GPS device. The 12 doesn’t change anything about the hardware, screen size, functions or the push-button interface (except the orange instead of grey buttons). But the clarity of the screen and mapping, and the speed and power of processing are all significantly improved. The screen boasts twice the pixels of the older unit, meaning the mapping really is pin-sharp, putting it once more on an even footing against top-end Garmins and Magellans. It also adds a barometric altimeter and heart-rate monitor, but it’s really the mapping you’ll buy it for.
