Common Issues with map cards

Common issues with map cards.

A step-by-step guide to viewing a map.

  • Insert the SD card and wait for up to 5  minutes to allow the card to load fully.
  • Press the 'Primary Screens' button (front right) to go to the 'Position Info' screen.
  • Select the option of 'map packs' from the bottom left hand corner. This should allow you to see the map tiles and you can scroll between them until the SD card data appears.
  • Then select 'view map' and you should be taken to the default location for the map.
  • Press the 'where am I' button (immediately left of the joystick or rocker pad) you should go to the 'GPS Map' mode, however you may find the map zooms you out at this point. If this happens then you will need to zoom back in until you get to a zoom level close to that of the map you are trying to view.
  • If it’s not the mapping scale you require then you may also need to 'toggle' between the map scales using the 'toggle' button (top left hand side button).

1. The microSD card is not in the adaptor.

Since 2016, we have supplied the map pack data on microSD cards inside adaptors. Active 10 and Active 12 users will need to have these microSD cards inside the adaptor before inserting the adaptor into their device. Active 20 users can insert the microSD card directly into their devices.

2. The map has not loaded yet.

Some map cards can take  between 1-3 minutes to load on an Active 20 and up to 5 minutes to load on an older device. The time a map card takes to load on the devices varies by how much data is on it. On an Active 20, there will be a rotating red square in the top right corner of the screen whilst the device is loading the map packs.

Active 10 and Active 12 users can check if there map has finished loading by going to the 'Position Info' screen and if 'Map packs' option is selectable, then the map card has finished loading. If it is greyed out, then try giving it another minute.

3. The 'Ceiling & Floor Limit'.

If you are able to access the mapping from the 'Maps Packs' screen, but can not get the correct mapping to display then it may be because you are zoomed too far in or too far out. When pressing and releasing either the zoom in or out button, a map scale should be displayed. You will need this map scale to be relatively close to that of the mapping you are trying to view.

For example, if you are trying to view a GB Whole 1:25K map card, you will need to zoom in or out until your map scale is between 1:23,000 and 1:27,000 to view the map. If it does not change automatically, simply press the 'toggle' button.

4. Corrupt data on the device or map card.

There may be a route or track on the device or map card that are interfering with the operation of the map card. You can add or remove routes or tracks from the device using SatSYNC. Alternatively, it may be easier to delete all route and track data from your device by 'defaulting' it. You can do this via the main menu > settings > default > yes > clear all.

You can add or remove routes and tracks from the map card in SatSYNC too. Alternatively you can use an SD card reader on a PC or Mac.
