The 40k map shows rights of way, car parking, land use, fencing, walls, campsites and mountain rescue posts. Contours are set to 15 metre intervals which gives greater legibility in steep terrain. The cycle route is clearly marked with a red dashed line.

Length of cycle route is approximately 160km/100miles.Travelling from what was the original capital of England, Winchester, and running along the chalk escarpment of the South Downs to the white cliffs' Seven Sisters and Beachy Head at Eastbourne, this trail covers some of the most beautiful lowland routes in the country. It takes in numerous attractive villages and woodlands, and is rich in history as the path follows a route that has been traveled since the end of the Ice Age.
